In Nutrition and Dietetics, we offer a BS degree in Dietetics, a BS in Nutrition, a Distance Dietetic Program (DDP), and a Minor in Nutrition. We also offer a Dietetic Internship to help prepare student to become Registered Dietitians.

I also invite you to explore our Graduate Kinesiology (SES) programs and our Graduate Dietetics programs. KiND offers graduate degrees in Athletic Training (M.S.), Biomechanics (M.S. and Ph.D.), Exercise Physiology (M.S. and Ph.D.), Dietetics (M.S.), Dietetics with Dietetic Internship (MSDI), Social Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity (M.S. and Ph.D.), Physical Education and Physical Activity Leadership (M.A.T. and Ph.D.), Sport Administration (M.S. and Ph.D.), and Sport Coaching (M.A.). These programs provide students in depth study while helping to develop critical thinkers with the tools for conducting meaningful research and assuming leadership positions in their respective disciplines.

KiND also has plenty of opportunities for students outside of the classroom. In addition to our numerous research opportunities throughout the department, I recommend taking a look at the UNC Cancer Rehabilitation Institute, the UNC Sport Marketing Research Institute, and the UNC Active Schools Institute to see how these experiences help enhance student education.

Again, thank you for visiting KiND, and please feel free to give me a call or send me an email if you have any questions. I look forward to hearing from you, and we would love to have you Be KiND!

Nutrition & Dietetics: Preparation Based in Science

Our students meet the changing needs of society and industry in food and nutrition, with a sound knowledge base in science. With foundations in physiological, biological and behavioral sciences, students are well-prepared for clinical, private practice and management aspects of nutrition in health care. Dietetics students develop human relationship skills and expertise in addressing nutritional needs for human growth and development throughout the life cycle.

News and Announcements

Beginning January 1, 2024, the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) has changed the degree requirement for dietitian registration eligibility from a Bachelor's degree to a Master's degree (in any field) in addition to the current requirement of a verification statement from an ACEND accredited dietetics program.  For more information, see Graduate Degree Registration Eligibility Requirement Frequently Asked Questions and Graduate Degree Registration Eligibility Requirement Student Option Scenarios.

Distance Dietetic Program

UNC offers a distance-based Didactic Program in Dietetics called the Distance Dietetic Program (DDP). It's the same program as our ACEND accredited on-campus program, but is more accessible for students who aren't able to participate in a full-time on-campus experience. The DDP offers 15 courses online; the rest of the required courses are taken at a Institutionally Accredited institution where you live or on-line.
